We welcome any your questions involving QuakeSat, its mission, and its design. If you would like to submit a question, please send an email to the webmaster. Thanks for your interest!
A: The
QuakeSat spacecraft structure is actually a modified CubeSat design, that is its
dimensions are 10 x 10 cm, however its length is nearly 35 cm. The extra
length is necessary since the earthquake sensor payload is some 30.5 cm long,
and it just doesn't fit into regular CubeSat. So instead QuakeSat takes up
the effective volume of three CubSats combined when placed end to end as shown
below. As a result, QuakeSat fits into a Ppod launcher all by itself.
